Standards Based Learning
Standards-Based Learning (SBL) is a
grading system that is used by teachers to measure students’ proficiency on
well-defined course objectives that stretch over units. There are many benefits
to using this system, including that it gives grades more of a meaning, skills
are acquired through practice, it helps the teacher to create individualized instruction
for students based on their needs, and it allows students to know what is
expected of them. Simply put,
Standards-Based Learning will clearly identify to students what they should
know and be able to do while closely
monitoring their proficiency on a specific set of learning objectives.
